Larry Crowne (2011) – Tom Hanks

Passable little charmer from Tom Hanks starring Hanks as a man laid off because of his lack of college experience in a move that still doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me but there it is. He enrolls in a community college and amazingly becomes BMOC with a sexy free spirit (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) based on his scooter (the girl is part of a scooter gang) and his unassuming sweetness. He then goes on to inspire his speech teacher (Julia Roberts) to ditch her loser husband and rededicate herself to teaching. We don’t see a lot of that rededication actually and that makes some of the final speechifying fall a little flat but this is not a movie for substance, and there’s enough sweet moments to make it worth it but not enough to cause cavities.
